Beacon, one of the technologies that has to do with the use of low-energy Bluetooth technology to send signals to other smart devices nearby, is already making waves across various industries for all the revenue opportunities and enhanced customer experience it offers businesses. Here are some beacon technology application: 1. Check in: Imagine a guest walks into the hotel lobby, and receives a ‘check-in’ push notification on the hotel app. The push notification shows the reservation, asks for confirmation and the guest has digitally checked in. 2. Key less entry in rooms: When a guest will digitally check in, a digital key is sent to their smartphones via the app allowing them to bypass the front desk and proceeding towards their room directly. 3. In room controls: Most hotels require a swipe key card to turn on the in room controls. But what if it were possible for the guest to turn on the in room controls with their smartphones. Beacons make this possible. They will sense the guest in the room controls through Bluetooth and send a notification through the app on their smartphone, allowing them to control the air conditioning, tv etc. 4. Room service: The beacon inside the app is aware that the guest is inside the room. The app is aware of the guest’s cuisine and other preferences. Through the app can trigger notification asking them to “Check out the menu”. They can read the reviews regarding the food written by other guests.
